Ryan is a Resilience, Security and Risk Leader at Arup with a specialism in protective design in the built environment with a primary focus on malicious threat and risk mitigation. During his time in industry Ryan has played a key leading technical role in many major projects around the world ranging from new build to restoration and refurbishment. As a technical and commercial leader on projects, he has significant experience in establishing and implementing robust and resilient Security Basis of Designs for projects in Rail, Government, Science, Industry, Property and Defence sectors. Ryan also has strong and influential links with the Department for Transport Land Transport Security Team, British Transport Police (BTP), National Protective Security Authority (NPSA), Home Office and the Government Property Agency. Ryan also has a great deal of experience working with Tier 1 and 2 contractors on the delivery of large infrastructure projects around the UK and has invested valuable time and effort in educating the built environment supply chain on security requirements, regulation, legislation and recommended best practice. Ryan also has well rounded knowledge and experience in expert witness cases which require deep technical analytical abilities for diagnostic support legal proceedings. Ryan is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Liverpool Blast and Impact Research Centre and Royal Academy of Engineering Industry Research Partner with the University of Sheffield.
