Makena Ngarari (she/her) is a Senior Smart Places Consultant at Jacobs, a role that focuses on exploring the potential of digital innovation, urban data and user-centred design to collaboratively plan for and deliver cities that meet identified social, environmental and economic objectives.

With a background in urban planning and construction project management, Makena has worked on a wide range of projects in the UK, Middle-East, Africa and Asia with leading multi-disciplinary firms. Her responsibilities have included developing smart building technical guidelines to meet ambitious smart city visions, managing the delivery of complex smart building projects and producing strategies with local governments to secure long-term, private finance for Net Zero projects . Makena has also developed digital masterplans for cities and produced business cases to support the adoption of market solutions that utilise 5G and IoT to address socio-economic challenges.

Makena is passionate about designing and building resilient urban spaces that nurture social sustainability and maximise social equity.
