Grace (she/her) is an Architect with more than two decades of diverse professional experience. She graduated from the Mackintosh School of Architecture being awarded the prestigious RIAS silver medal and portfolio prize for Scotland. She later worked for several renowned UK practices, with much of her work being highly acclaimed before leaving traditional practice. Challenged by social, ethical and economical imbalance around her whilst raising a young family, she started the practice Grace Choi Architecture in the North East in 2013. The value led, design oriented practice now focusses on the transformation of community driven projects and homes.
Grace acts as RIBA NE co-chair, led the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion group. She also serves on the RIBAJ editorial panel, RIBA EDI leaders group, the Venice Biennale British Pavilion selection panel and is founding board member of Elevation, a local community arts initiative.
She has been influential in her efforts to demystify issues of Inclusion to the architectural community, by founding the J.E.D.I. talks. She is a regular visiting reviewer at UK schools of architecture, speaker, mentor and writer. She co-edited the book entitled Inclusion Emergency: Diversity in Architecture, by RIBA Publishing, June 2024 which is available worldwide.
