David is a partner at international law firm Charles Russell Speechlys. He leads the firm’s forty-person Construction Engineering & Projects Group. David is qualified as both a solicitor and a barrister, and joined legacy firm Charles Russell in 2005 to establish, lead and develop its construction practice. 

David specialises in both UK & international construction law. Chambers describes him as "extremely impressive & client-focused in all matters" with "first-class knowledge" and "extremely persuasive and yet wisely diplomatic negotiating style." ​ Chambers 2024 also lists him as a Band 1 "Leader in his Field"​. Legal 500 described him as "the kind of litigator you want on your side – good with the law, a fantastic thinker and able to engage in commercial bargaining with the other side", listing him as Leading Individual. David's work for UHNW private clients was recognised by his inclusion in the Citywealth’s Leaders List.

David acts for international governments, developers, institutions, contractors, sub-contractors, designers and construction consultants. Much of David’s UK work is currently related to fire safety, post Grenfell recourse actions, and the Building Safety Act. In his international work, David is particularly focussed on the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Asia. He also delivers training on FIDIC, NEC3/4 and IChemE contracts internationally, including in China, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Syria and Oman.

David has a large following on social media, and writes and comments frequently on construction law and construction sector issues for both trade and national press. He is in demand as a public speaker both as a construction lawyer but also in relation to his other role at Charles Russell Speechlys, namely as the firm’s Social Mobility partner and member of the firm’s diversity board. In 2024, David was nominated as a finalist for the “Champion of the Year” in the UK Social Mobility Awards.
