Dave joined West Mercia Police in 1988 and spent 30 years working for the force. During that time he undertook many roles but the majority of his service was conducted as a Detective Sergeant working in covert policing targeting Serious and Organised Crime on various force, regional and national covert surveillance teams. Dave spent his final 10 years as a technical surveillance specialist running a team conducting sensitive tactics to gather evidence against criminals and advising the senior Policing team on the feasibility of such tactics.

On retiring from the Police Dave was recruited by SmartWater Technology the well known forensic marking company, initially as a risk manager to operate and advise on covert deployments using SmartWater’s cameras and tactics for commercial clients around the UK and support Police forces.

As SmartWater expanded and has evolved into the forensic marking arm of  DeterTech UK Daves role has focussed on supporting UK Policing in their use of varying SmartWater strategies – from burglary and crime reduction to domestic abuse reduction. Daves role also involves supporting the DeterTech UK “Crime Intelligence” team in the dissemination of industry crime intelligence to Police and engaging with Police forces in support of commercial clients where an opportunity to detect an offence or recover property may have been missed or overlooked. The formal information sharing agreement between DeterTech UK and all UK Police forces, authorised by the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) supports Dave’s role in Police engagement in the quest to detect crime and support commercial clients and DeterTech’s mission to “Give greater peace of mind to people and communities every day”.
