With nearly 25 years of experience in the mineral extractives industry, Anthony Elgey started his career when he joined Redland as a concrete and asphalt technician. Since then, he has held various roles with major producers such as, Tarmac, Lafarge, as well as the Institute of Quarrying. Whilst at Tarmac, he was directly involved in managing the National Skills and Safety Park, the national apprenticeship and competence training centre. In this role, Anthony designed and developed the occupational health training zone, which went on to win the 2021 Mineral Products Association (MPA) award in the category ‘Safer through improvements in health and safety.
As a STEM ambassador Anthony pioneered an industry-wide project called Minerals Matter, which inspires and engages with young people to recognise the importance of minerals in the built environment and green technologies.
Anthony has developed National Occupational Standards (NOS) for the quarrying and mining industries, numerous vocational qualifications, five apprenticeship standards, as well as delivered technical and soft skills training across the UK and in the United Arab Emirates.
He joined BSI in January 2024 as Lead Standards Development Manager for the built environment.
