Superintendent Andy Huddleston

Andy grew up in County Durham and joined Durham Constabulary in 1995 having before that ridden off road motorbikes for the Yamaha trials team. Riding in the British and World Championships, Andy won 3 British Championship titles as well as 4th place at the International Scottish 6 day trial. He still continues to ride competitively today.

As a police officer Andy has worked in a wide cross section of roles from neighbourhood policing and 24/7 response to VIP armed protection, surveillance and counter terrorist operations. Andy was a firearms tactical team officer for several years before being promoted and in 2010 was responsible for establishing and heading the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit. This merged at the time the largest number of firearms officers and road policing specialists in the Country from two forces into one team.

In 2012 Andy led the team that planned and escorted the Olympic torch relay through the North East. He has received several Chief Constable commendations, two of which were for the innovative use of covert tracking technology to catch machinery thieves and for his leadership as Tactical Firearms Commander during a protracted armed siege.

In 2017 Andy joined Northumbria Police on promotion to Superintendent. Since then he has spent 3 years as head of Response and Neighbourhood Policing for the Northern Command, two years as the Chief Constables Staff officer and was the force lead for Rural Crime. Since 2018 Andy has been the NPCC national lead for the theft of construction and agricultural machinery. In April 2023 Andy established and now heads the National Rural Crime Unit which is tasked with supporting forces and representing rural policing including the theft of construction equipment across the UK and abroad.
