London Construction Awards 2024 winners announced!

On Friday 27th Sept, the London Construction Awards lit up the city with a glittering ceremony, where the best of the built environment were crowned winners.

Hosted by hit comedian Tom Davis, the event saw over 450 industry professionals gather to celebrate triumphs across 21 categories. With a record-breaking number of entries this year, the competition showcased the incredible innovation, growth, and diversity driving the UK’s construction industry. It was a night to remember!

The evening was proudly sponsored by an incredible lineup, including Konnect & Co, Knightsbridge Development Corporation, UK Construction Marketing, Space Survey, and ShoutOut

A special thanks goes out to the esteemed panel of judges, and to Dr. Wei Yang, Chair of the Construction Industry Council and CEO of the Digital Task Force for Planning, for kicking off the evening with an inspiring opening speech that set the perfect tone for a memorable night!

EXCELLENCE IN COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT 

Winner: Barnet Council

Runner Up: Curl la Tourelle Head Architecture

The judges felt that they were able to show how the community is at the very core of the Brent Cross Cricklewood programme. The judges were particularly impressed with making Brent Cross West station as accessible as possible for blind and partially sighted passengers.

WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION INITIATIVE OF THE YEAR AWARD 

Winner: AtkinsRealis UK

Runner Up: The Leading Ladies in Construction

The judges were impressed with the enthusiasm and dedication led by graduates to empower the next generation of young women entering the construction industry.  The judges also feel that a considerable lasting impact has been made throughout the company to increase access and opportunities for the next generation of talent.

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION INITIATIVE OF THE YEAR. Sponsored by Konnect&Co

Winner: Transport for London

Runner up: Chartered Surveyors Training Trust

The judges were impressed by the impact of Transport for London, not just within its own organisation but also on wider communities and society.  Transport for London focused on disability inclusion, which the judges felt is a critically undervalued and under-prioritised area of inclusion.

APPRENTICESHIP INITIATIVE OF THE YEAR 

Winner: Berkeley Group

Runner up: Mates In Mind

The judges noted Berkeley Group’s inclusive approach to selecting apprentices.  They feel Berkeley Group is leading the way in levelling the playing field, by not using CVs to assess talent and removing any bias from the selection process.  This improved the number of successful diverse candidates selected for apprenticeships.

RESIDENTIAL PROJECT OF THE YEAR

Winner: Bell Phillips - Cosway Street

Runner up: Rosiguill Development - Birch Grove

The judges felt this was an elegant, well-considered and interesting facade for much-needed social housing.  The judges also highlighted that this building exemplifies what can be achieved within this sector.

 

COMMERCIAL PROJECT OF THE YEAR, Sponsored by Knightsbridge Development Corporation 

Winner: Haworth Tompkins - Industria

Runner up: Quadrum Global

The judge's comments noted that Industria, Barking was an innovative and elegant design solution.  They saw it as a very exciting use of industrial land, being inherently sustainable with a powerful visual impact.

MMC PROJECT OF THE YEAR 

Winner: Cumming Group, Tide Construction & Vision Modular - The Glassworks

Runner up: Volkerfitzpatrick

Judges commented on the project’s well-oiled supply chain driving efficiency and sustainable outcomes.  They were particularly impressed with 99% of waste being diverted from landfills and instead being recycled or used for energy recovery.

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN OF THE YEAR

Winner: Foster + Partners - Battersea Roof Gardens & Fifty Electric Boulevard

Runner up: Carey Jones Chapman Tolcher - The Shippon

The judges described Battersea Roof Gardens as a wonderful project applying the very best in biophilic design and sustainable environment with a rich mixture of healthy spaces for everyone to enjoy.

EXCELLENCE IN SUSTAINABILITY - PROJECT 

Winner: Chetwood Architects and Baytree Logistics Properties - Baytree Nuneaton

Runner up: Eight Versa and Molyneux Architects - Elmara Passive House Plus

The judges described their entry as an ambitious project with sustainability running through every element.  They also hope their project inspires others to look for alternatives to concrete and steel. The judges were also impressed with the use of renewable energy, not just in the construction but also in the operation of the building once complete.

EXCELLENCE IN SUSTAINABILITY - PRODUCT

Winner: 540 World

Runner up: Gentian

The judges described their fenders as a simple but impactful product which brings a number of wider innovative sustainability benefits.

 

CONTRACTOR OF THE YEAR 

Winner: Advance Facilities Group

Runner up: Kilnbridge

The judges were impressed with how Advance has a strong focus on community and sustainability.  However, a standout factor in their submission was the focus on the multiple strands that make a great contractor and their dedication to safety.


CONSULTANT OF THE YEAR

Winner: Arcadis

Runner up: Harley Haddow

Arcadis were commended on their commitment to diversity and sustainability throughout their processes and practices.  The use and analysis of data to support their services and drive innovation made them a standout entry

 

DIGITAL CONSTRUCTION TEAM OF THE YEAR 

Winner: John Sisk and Son

Runner up: AICHITECT

The judges noted their real-time application of technology to reduce carbon waste and streamline their projects.  They were also able to prove that their on-the-ground software was able to produce tangible results.

MARKETING TEAM OF THE YEAR

Winner: Ecosafe Group

Runner up: On The Tools

The judges were impressed by how quickly the Ecosafe marketing team have grown, from having a smaller presence to innovating their website to enhance sales growth.

PROJECT TEAM OF THE YEAR

Winner: Barnet Council

Runner up: British Land

The judges voted for Barnet Council as they demonstrated the strengths of collaboration and reflection, as well as clearly displaying a legacy for the local area.  The team had clear innovations at the heart of their work both in building techniques and technology.

FIRE SAFETY SOLUTION OF THE YEAR

Winner: PlanRadar

Runner up: Ramtech

The judges were impressed by PlanRadar’s flexible platform, being one of the most comprehensive fire safety documentation management platforms on the market.  It enables clients to develop their own golden thread on projects and buildings to demonstrate a new safety-first approach to building.

SAFETY & SECURITY SOLUTION OF THE YEAR

Winner: On the Tools

Runner up: FHOSS

The judges praised their entry for tackling a significant issue and demonstrating good outreach.

 

CONSTRUCTION SOFTWARE OF THE YEAR

Winner: Buildots

Runner up: HouzzPro

The judges were impressed with the real-time efficiency onsite of their software, as well as the integration of technology with the teams.  

 

TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION OF THE YEAR

Winner: Automated Architecture

Runner up: Buildots

The judges highlighted their innovative approach and impressive commitment to sustainability, making it a deserving winner for the Technological Innovation of the Year award

 

PRODUCT INNOVATION OF THE YEAR

Winner: Adaptavate

Runner up: Low Carbon Materials

The judges feel Adaptavate have designed products that could make a genuine difference to the environment, tackling the problem of waste with an incredibly innovative solution.

 

SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR

Winner: UAP

Runner up: Bryson

The judges were impressed with their in-depth knowledge of the sector, focusing on innovation and developing new approaches to support fire safety, as well as anti-viral surface innovations post-COVID.
