Curzon Wharf – £360m Birmingham Towers Scheme
Plans to redevelop an “under-utilised” area of Birmingham to the tune of £360 million are under consideration.
Local developer Woodbourne Group aims to bring Curzon Wharf to the city’s Learning Quarter – a major mixed-use development boasting net zero construction.
Engineering consultancy Cundall has been appointed to the “landmark” scheme.
Scope
- Boulton Tower – 498 residential apartments over 53 storeys
- Watt Tower – 723 student flats over 41 storeys
- Galton Skytree – a 14-storey co-living block with 265 units
Curzon Wharf also features office and Research & Development (R&D) space and a life science building spanning 12,000 sqm over nine storeys.
Sky terraces, a gym, cinema room, and a bowling alley are also proposed, as well as private parking, and retail and commercial space.
The scheme, coming to a brownfield site in the city, is designed to Passivhaus standards, incorporating Modern Methods of Construction (MMC).
Up to 460 jobs will be created during construction.

“The development will create a landmark for Birmingham and a gateway into the city centre”, said Cundall.
Woodbourne chief executive, Tani Dulay, added: “Curzon Wharf isn’t just a development, it’s a manifesto that will position Birmingham as the UK’s leading smart and sustainable city, helping to pave the way for the UK’s green revolution. It reinforces Birmingham’s position as the UK’s second city.”
The scheme will be weighed by planning committee next week.
