Central London urgently needs a larger skilled workforce to decarbonise its commercial buildings. The Skills for a Sustainable Skyline Taskforce will work at pace to identify and bridge skill gaps to ensure that Central London has a globally competitive sustainable commercial built environment which we need to retain our world leading financial and professional services sector.
The Taskforce is a three-year project led by the City of London Corporation to boost the supply of skilled workers for sustainable buildings. It will bring together employers, training providers and industry bodies from across the commercial built environment sector, as well as national and local government.
The Taskforce has three taskforce outputs:
- Public/Private Collaboration on Policy Levers and Section 106 – Explores how local authorities can collaborate with employers to use Section 106, social value, procurement and other policy levers for driving upskilling and diversity on green skills across Central London’s commercial built environment.
- Engaging Green Skills Influencers – A series of engagement events with key influential stakeholders who have the power to encourage green upskilling, reskilling, and workforce diversity. This is a cross-cutting focus area which will reflect work from the other two outputs.
- Green Skills Playbook – A live Playbook document which will signposts to best practice for green skills across Central London's commercial built environment, including attraction and retention of skilled workers.
Read our Recommendations Report which highlights the critical need for greater access to a skilled, diverse workforce which is trained and qualified to construct, retrofit, and manage the commercial buildings of tomorrow.
