London Build

Cullinan Studio

Cullinan Studio believes a strong connection to the living world is fundamental to the healthiness of a place and the wellbeing of its inhabitants. The London and Nottingham-based architecture practice designs buildings and masterplans that are sensitive to local environments, incorporating natural materials and renewable energy sources, as well as daylight, fresh air, and green spaces.

As a signatory to Architects Declare and the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge, the practice is committed to mitigating the role that buildings and construction play on climate change and biodiversity loss. As a member of the Alliance of Sustainable Building Materials, Cullinan Studio disseminates its research to eliminate the use of toxic materials and is part of a project looking at how to eliminate the use of plastic within the construction industry.

RIBA Royal Gold Medallist, Edward (Ted) Cullinan established the practice as a cooperative in 1965. Founded on ideas about ecology, sustainability and social responsiveness, Cullinan Studio remains an employee-owned practice and continues to have a strong culture of shared learning, open innovation and the design of buildings as a ‘social act’.

Cullinan Studio works across all sectors and scales, including education, housing, workplace, health, and low-carbon energy infrastructure. Recently completed award-winning projects include The Catkin Centre and Sunflower House providing specialist mental healthcare facilities at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool, the redevelopment of Maitland Park Estate providing affordable low-energy housing for the London Borough of Camden, the Clore Learning Centre and Hilltop Lodge at RHS Garden Hyde Hall in Essex, the Black Country & Marches Institute of Technology in Dudley delivered using the pioneering IPI procurement model, and the Prof. Lord Bhattacharyya Building housing the National Automotive Innovation Centre at the University of Warwick.
